When I finished my leaving cert I went straight to college in Galway and realised that the high numbers in lectures and the intense nature of college wasn’t suited to me.

Starting college as a mature student with children was very nerve wrecking, however Cavan Institute made the transition very relaxed and smooth.

I found the subjects fascinating in my course and really enjoyed learning what occupational therapy is and the many ways in which occupational therapists help people to recover and live with their congenital or acquired injuries.

My tutors knew how to make learning fun by incorporating quizzes and games into the curriculum.

Being a PE teacher is all I ever wanted to be from a young age. The support from staff members in Cavan Institute is one of the main reasons why I applied for Sports Studies and Physical Education and have progressed to follow my dream career.

I always knew I wanted a career in healthcare and completing this course in Cavan Institute has allowed me the opportunity to achieve this.

After completing the course, it gave me a clear understanding of where and how to move further using the Higher Education Links Scheme (HELS). After much thought and deliberation around CAO time, I went the aviation route which brought me to where I am now.

After receiving my Leaving Cert results in 2019 I was very disappointed with my results as I just missed out on my CAO course by 6 points as I wanted to go to Maynooth University. I knew that I wanted to study music in college, but I didn’t want to repeat my leaving cert. So, I decided to do a level 5 QQI/Btec course in music and sound production here in Cavan Institute. Little did I know that doing a PLC in Cavan Institute was the best thing for me at that time, as I made a lot of new friends who were interested in music as much as I am. In my course, I got to learn the piano and I improved on my music theory also. When I went to Cavan Institute I had little to no knowledge about music production nor music technology which was a worry for me at first but with the help of my tutors and my fellow colleagues I learned so much about the production/technology side of the course. Studying in Cavan Institute has taught me very important skills for college such as getting used to ‘Moodle’, academic referencing in assignments was very important for me to learn as I'll always have to do that in college. I also learned how to take in information in a college unlike secondary school, college has a different way of teaching you the information you need for your assignments/exams.

My experience at Cavan Institute was absolutely amazing. Although it is quite a difficult and heavy course, it was extremely rewarding. I always had a passion for makeup from a very young age and had always dreamed of being a makeup artist. I had researched so many makeup courses around Ireland, most of them being private, which were extremely expensive and quite far away from home. I knew since I was in my 3rd year of secondary school that I wanted to have an ITEC diploma.

After receiving my leaving certificate results in 2019, I was very disappointed. I had enough points for the course I wanted to do in the LYIT but I had failed Maths. I decided to do a level 5 QQI course in forensic science at Cavan Institute. Little did I know that a PLC (Post Leaving Cert) course was the best thing for me at that time. I made a lot of new friends along the way. When I went to Cavan Institute I had some information about forensics but not a lot. So that was a bit of a worry for me, but with help, I gradually learned more and more about forensics and science in general. When I was studying at Cavan Institute, I learned many important skills like getting used to Moodle and Teams. Learning to reference assignments properly was a huge asset. All universities and IoT's insist on academically referenced assignments so I will be confident starting college with this knowledge.

after going to an open day in Cavan Institute, I got an insight into what I would be doing on the professional cookery course. The course helped me build my confidence in my cooking skills as well as my multitasking and organizational skills which are important for being a chef. The course also helped me as I completed 40 days of work experience in a hotel kitchen. This gave me an insight into how a professional kitchen was run and I would have never gotten this experience only for the course.

I decided to go to Cavan institute in the first place as I felt I was too young for college. It has really helped me mature. I had a great time in Cavan Institute and would highly recommend a PLC course.
